Combat Flight Sims

IL-2, DCS World, War Thunder Simulator mode, you name it. Does anyone play? I would love to play some coop missions with you if you do.

Do you want to play flight sims, but do not have a stick? Buy one then, ya dingus. A lower end HOTAS Thrustmaster goes for 50 bucks and it's a worthwhile investment. I do not recommend the middle range sticks, since the jump in quality isn't as huge as when it comes to the upper tiers like this baby:

I love you

I know a lot of you play war thunder. Why not step up your game? Come fly with me!

  • I'd run rings around you on IL2 1946 ;)

    Any plane any time.

  • I don't doubt it Captain! I never played IL2 since I got my stick way late, and I have heard bad things about the new game so I never bothered. I bought some modules for DCS World during the summer sale though and would love to try some of the planes.

Please teach me your magic Captain!

  • If you want we can arange a time to some IL2 1946 dog fights? Im sure I could find some more guys to join.

  • That would be excellent, as I said I've never played IL2 and don't own it but it is very cheap and I would definitely buy it if I had people to play with. If we got five people or more we could even do small scenarios like bomber escort and such, which would be cool.

  • Which IL2 do you guys play? I've got one of them, I can installed it and get the ole thrustmaster stick I have back out see if I'm any good lol.

  • I'm bloody awful when flying but I wouldn't mind having a shot of IL-2. Wouldn't mind buying the second one if everyone would prefer that one but I do have 1946.

  • 1946 has Very Positive reviews and costs 10 euros. IL-2: Battle of Stalingrad costs 46 euros and has Mixed reviews.

From what i hear 1946 also has a very big mod community. I think it's a given what most of us here in the 29th would prefer to play.

  • Heard this mod is pretty good - Community Universal Patch CUP

  • 1946 is basically the version with all the expansions, it is fairly cheap on steam and can be picked up in alot of video game shops / yard sales / charity shops in the bargain bucket bins for pennies.

Alright sweet, I've got IL2 1946. So I'd be down to play, I will install it tonight and get my Stick set back up. I'll need help installing mods and stuff, cause I'm sometimes computer retarded lol.

Right, I'll buy the game now then since I want it anyway. I have a platoon drill tomorrow, so around then I'll probably be able to set up my stick and try not to crap myself when I try to take off and land for the first time in two years.

I will jump on TS on sunday night after the drill if you want to check out what mods look interesting together.

  • I used to have an X-55 but I hated the throttle, it was SO stiff, even after I removed some of the "lube" (the lube that creates friction the faster you push it forward). I ended up selling it to some Russian guy, but I bought DCS A-10, and I have IL2 1946. I'm thinking about buying a cheapo joystick, just because I enjoy using them but I only used it once in a while. I'd be down for IL2, but only as a turret gunner since I don't have a stick right now.

My friend was too much of a coward to get serious with his flying, so he gave me his X-52 when he moved, which is why I'm itching to try it out. I had a Thrustmaster Hotas X before which is an adequate stick for a low price, but does feel a bit cheap. I had a great time with it though, PFC Zenhenko, so if you can find a cheap one I definitely recommend it for what it is.

I still enjoyed my time with the Thrustmaster though. I feel that you should either have a low-end like that, or an expensive high quality stick. Middle ground just feels like a disappointment and I wouldn't use the x52 if it wasn't gifted to me.

Sad to hear that the X55 had issues PFC, it looks really cool. Not as cool as the Thrustmaster Warthog ofc, but still.

  • I use a Thrustmaster Hotas X and it's quite nice and it has plenty of times to fiddle around with. Hopefully I can use 1946 with this keyboard as well at the same time for some secondary features since I recently bought a gaming keyboard for all the extra quirky bits; also if you chaps are thinking about any mods then just throw them out there, I'll roll with whatever you chaps want to go with.

  • What sort of time did you guys have in mind for some dogfights?

  • It's 2000 in Sweden right now and I have a drill at 2200. If anyone else is online after 2300 I will be on teamspeak setting up my stick.

So if you want to take a couple of minutes to set my engine on fire tonight I'd be happy to accommodate you, Captain. I can't say that it will be challenging but I'll try my best, hopefully I don't forget to retract my landing gear after takeoff.

  • Guys, if you're interested in some easy-going IL2 46 dog-fighting, have a look at my squad's forums:http://chuffysflyingcircus.net/cfcforum/index.php. It's very relaxed and informal - not really a squad at all - and a great way to get into IL2 MP.

Mods - if this is inappropriate please remove. I may not be an actual 29ther, but I'm not a stranger in these parts either!

  • Greatly appreciated FatherTed. It's on topic so I don't think there's any problem, I'll check you guys out later!
