La Femme - Sur La Planche

  • edited June 2019

I find it a bit obnoxious, sorry...
    Rating: 1/10

    The Beatles - "Nowhere Man"

(Paul played a great melodic bassline on this track.)

  • 9/10 - Rubber Soul was a favourite on road trips during my childhood.

    The Door - Chernobyl OST

(Some behind the scenes info about this soundtrack. The majority of the soundtrack minus the vocals was made using field recordings sourced from the nuclear power plant in Lithuania where the movie was shot - the sister site to the Chernobyl RBMK reactor facility.)

  • 6/10

The Beatles - "I'll Be Back"

  • 7/10 I always enjoy that album along with the movie.

Gram Parsons - Ooh Las Vegas

  • edited June 2019

It's been a while since I've listened to this song. Gram Parsons was one of the pioneers of country rock. This is one of his best!
    Rating: 8/10

D.D.E. - "Det fine vi hadd' sammen"

They are one of Norway's best-selling groups. The lyrics are about missing someone after they pass away, thus it's become a popular song to play at funerals. The opening piano part reminds me of "(Everything I Do) I Do It for You" by Bryan Adams.

I'll try my best to translate the lyrics (it's sung in "trønder" dialect as the band is from the town of Namsos in Trøndelag county):

    It can't be true
The best time was about to come now
We still had many more good (times)
I was not prepared for this

    I can't reach you now
It's life itself which gives us such punches
But I will nevertheless say it now today
    You will be here forever

I miss you now and what we will not get
But the memories you gave me I will take good care of

I want to think of all the beautiful (times) we had together
That time we thought we could do everything
I want to think of all the beautiful (times) we had together
Now I see you in one and everything

    We had a lovely time
Would gladly have done everything over again
Glad that I got to have you as a friend
We lived life while we did it

  • 3/10 I like the writing on the lyrics though!

The Comet Is Coming - Start Running

  • Psychedelic jazz? It's good, though!
    Rating: 7/10

    Eagles - "Already Gone"

  • This... This is stuff I listen to when I have to drive for hours. Awesome.
    7/10
A friend of mine and his band released this in may.
Justify Rebellion - Act The Fool

    2/3

Bill Monroe and the bluegrass boys - Wayfaring stranger (skip to 46:46 because linking that doesn't work for me)

  • edited July 2019

This style of music is more for my dad's taste.
    Rating: 6/10

Dance with a Stranger - "Everyone Needs a Friend"

I was very surprised when I found out this wasn't an international hit. I've heard its chorus so many times on the radio and in TV commercials growing up. But no, it's merely a Norwegian band performing a soul-inspired ballad in English, which became a local hit. Øivind "Elg" Elgenes delivers the soulful vocal performance reminiscent of Joe Cocker. (Yes, his nickname translates to moose!)

  • 3/10

Dario Russo - Come Te (Danger 5: Series 2 Original Soundtrack)

  • I was gonna give it 3 because I find the instrumental somewhat obnoxious, but the Italian bumped it up for me.
    Rating: 5/10

Joe Cocker - "When the Night Comes"

  • 7/10

    The Antlers - Two

  • 10/10

Saw these dudes last night. Good show
    Foxwarren - "To Be"

  • edited July 2019

8/10 - I quite liked that, it was quite interesting something I had not heard before.

I stumbled upon these guys on spotify a while back enjoyed their EP ever since.

    SugarTape - Over Me

  • 7/10 - Good stuff!

Tor Endresen - "A Brand New Day"

A song that was used in a film I watched a lot growing up. The setting of the film was 1960, which explains why it was written and performed to sound like an Elvis Presley country ballad.

  • 3/10

Thunderclap Newman - Something In The Air

  • 7/10

    Lapko - "Run Boy Run"

    (Made in Finland.)

  • 6/10

Warren Zevon- Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner (cover by Lauren O'Connell)

  • 6/10

Nothing like a new Thom Yorke song to make you question your whole existence.
    Thom Yorke - Dawn Chorus

I've been listening to many Eurovision songs I haven't heard before lately and this is one I instantly fell in love with. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Marcos Llunas - "Sin rencor" (Spain - 6th place at Eurovision Song Contest 1997)

  • 3/10

DJ Lady Style - Wu Tang Clan Tribute

  • 3/10

    Yes - "Starship Trooper"

  • 7/10, love that guitar and 60s - 80s vibe.

    7/10

George Harrison & Vicki Brown - "Shanghai Surprise"

The theme song to the 1986 film of the same name starring Sean Penn and Madonna (and Harrison himself in a cameo role). I haven't seen the movie yet myself, but I've always enjoyed this song.

I forget how much George Harrison content is out there I've never heard. I had a Beatles obsession back in college for a bit, but it never really carried over to the work that came after. His voice just makes me so nostalgic. 6/10, groove develops well.

Now for some Heeed. This song is really fun to jam on the bass.

  • 7/10 - this is the type of music I come back to every now and again, i used to listen to this sort of stuff a lot when i was in the Army.

Lately this has been getting some serious playtime on my spotify:

6/10 - It's alright. Not my thing, though.

Time for something different. Here's a song inspired by medieval folk music:

Dubrovački trubaduri - "Jedan dan" (Yugoslavia - 7th place at Eurovision Song Contest 1968)

They sing in Croatian about "one day". This is just pure fun!
