• I rented as above so below, and into the storm from red box, both pretty damn good movies! If you have a chance check em out.
• I watched American Sniper, it's pretty legit. Good film, good story - 9/10
How is it compared to the book?
Its also one of the loudest lol, though not surprising since its a Micheal Mann film. If your after incredibly awesome and over the top gunfights I'd recommend Hard Boiled, a Hong Kong action movie with Chow Yun-Fat and directed by John Woo. It's subtitled but I think there's a dubbed version you can probably find somewhere if that's an issue.

I'm actually really annoyed at the fact I haven't watched enough John Woo movies. He's such an influential figure in the genre, and without him many video games and movies would not even exist. I, in fact have a copy of Hard Boiled, just haven't watched it yet. Consider it watched by the end of the night however!

The Killer is another great one.

Watched The Rover again recently. A brutal film set in a post-apocalyptic Australia (a more realist Road Warrior I suppose). Simple story but done beautifully with the setting speaking volumes.

• Is the Rover in the same vein as 'The Road'? After seeing that movie I went back and read the book. I've never been so depressed. There isn't much of a happy moment throughout the whole film and/or book. Dark Stuff.

On another note, I saw another fairly depressing movie 'All is Lost' (2013) starring Robert Redford. About a man lost at sea. He pretty much has the worst luck ever.

Hahaha you're not entirely wrong. I think the difference is that, while The Road spends all this time building the viewer's investment into the main characters, The Rover's the main character is always a stranger. It's a really compelling way of telling the story, you've got a comfortable distance from the events, but you still feel the emotion primarily through the excellent acting.

• Nice, I'll add it to the ol Netflix queue.

• Saw another good one.

'Kings of Summer' - A couple young friends decide to build a house in the woods and live on their own for a summer. A coming of age story. Good stuff.

• Snowpiercer, the trailer looks crap and I thought it would be a generic action flick before I saw it, but the movie itself BLEW me away.

Good story, great action, very bloody and dark, also excellent direction.

8/10

I saw it recently too. Definitely a great sleeper.

• Saw 2 weird ones in the past few days. Lets start with Mulholland Drive (2001). Strange, cerebral, crazy, hard to follow, reality bending..... basically a standard David Lynch movie. At just shy of 2.5 hours, it's long, but I was definitely still into it by the end. Give it a shot if you have the chance.

I also saw Ichi the Killer (2001). Weird as hell. Tons of crazy Japanese cartoonish violence. Crazy sex stuff. A good time for sure.

WARNING: Trailer is pretty graphic

• As above so below
Very scary horror triller, liked it alot!

• -The Imitation Game- this is a another good example on how important the work happening "behind the scenes" were.

• You want weird and spooky? You get weird and spooky with The Babadook (2014).

Synopsis:
A single mother, plagued by the violent death of her husband, battles with her son's fear of a monster lurking in the house, but soon discovers a sinister presence all around her.

You guys have no idea how much I needed this thread haha.
Here's one, as thanks for the many great movies ^^
Title:
12 Years a Slave

IMDB Description:
In the antebellum United States, Solomon Northup, a free black man from upstate New York, is abducted and sold into slavery.

• I just watched 'The Road' last week and thought I'd add it to this list. There needs to be a note that, as mentioned before, this movie is not a happy one- Warner has the right of it. It focuses on the story of a nameless father and son going through a post apocalyptic world.

On another note, I recently re-watched two movies I enjoy, both focused around magicians. The first is called 'The Prestige' which is a story around two rival magicians.

The second is the Illusionist, set it nineteenth century Vienna, it follows the story of a magician and a love interest that is out of reach.

• Opening sequence to Werner Herzog's 'Aguirre, the Wrath of God'

One of my favourite films by my all-time favourite director, one can certainly see the influence this had on Coppola with the later Apocalypse Now. Really beautiful, ethereal soundtrack by Popol Vuh too.

Werner Herzog is indeed one of the greatest!

Reviving this thread with a helluva WWII film, Come and See (1985). It follows a 14 year old's journey in 1943 Belarus during the Nazi's push east into the Soviet Union. Very dark and disturbing. It also is in the public domain so I included a free YouTube version below for those interested.

Trailer

Full Movie: Part 1

Full Movie: Part 2

That was a great movie. There is a free version online (it's now public domain) on YouTube where you can turn on the subtitles. It was uploaded by a Russian film school.

Yeah, I posted the free YT version but apparently my OP was changed accusing me of stealing. I added the videos again for those interested.

• Because Fallout 4 is a thing we all enjoy, I decided to watch "A Boy and His Dog". If none of your know, Fallout draws quite a bit of inspiration from this film and others like it.

The plot of the film is simple enough, A Boy, Vic and his telepathic dog, Blood (called Dogmeat in one scene) search the wasteland for food and erotic entertainment. Along the way, Vic finds what he's looking for and gets inticed in a scheme larger than himself so yeah... go watch the film. It's on Youtube. I will not be posting a link since some scene's are NSFW.

A movie that will stay with me for a very long time. I wish there were more movies like it.

Also, I recently saw The Martian and I really really enjoyed it. It's got great cinematography and the way they handled the monologging was comfortable. Saw it in 3D which I'm still convinced is the only way to see big space movies (Interstellar etc).

Star Wars anyone? No spoilers so if you haven't seen it read on. I really enjoyed the movie, didn't think it was a masterpiece but definitely worth seeing.

• I don't even want to think about it.

• @2Lt. Bergstrom

The drone we use at work is affectionally named "Falcor" and is adorned with pink stripes. :)

Plus The Martian was really good.

Plus Star Wars was great.

I gave the The Interview a shot over break and it was a lot of fun. I can definitely see why North Korea didn't like it. Worth a watch.

Synopsis:
Dave Skylark and producer Aaron Rapoport run the celebrity tabloid show "Skylark Tonight." When they land an interview with a surprise fan, North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un, they are recruited by the CIA to turn their trip to Pyongyang into an assassination mission.
