We award the role of platoon sniper with a lot of thought and care. The weapon platform itself is not necessarily a reward as much as it is a symbol. The optics and freedom given to one of our snipers must pay back dividends in both body count and intel gained. The best snipers operate while integrated with the infantry, suppressing/eliminating enemy AIT"s and mentoring the riflemen. The mentorship and role model component of the rank and role is what I reward and value in my Snipers especially. When a soldier becomes not only a mascot but a name inextricably associated with the high powered optics of the Sniper kit; it is time to formalize his title as an Expert in his AIT. It is with great pleasure that I can finally award T/5 Evarts with his Sniper Expert Badge. Congratulations and I hope to see you continue to hold up to your standard of excellence.
