During the first round of the OCS scrim, DP3’s platoon sniper was lost due to enemy counter-sniper activity. It was during this time that 1Lt. Ochs’ and T/5 Fleming’s quick thinking resulted in the recovery of the lost sniper rifle into the hands of the junior platoon sniper. Once 1Lt. Ochs recovered the sniper rifle, this asset was quickly delivered to T/5 Fleming before he set out to establish sniper cover from the Bravo building.
As the main platoon element moved their way towards the enemy held Alpha objective, T/5 Fleming was able to eliminate five defenders in quick succession from afar. Thus, establishing sniper support and allowing DP3 elements to gain a foothold into the objective. Had T/5 Fleming not obtained the direly needed sniper rifle, the assault onto the target objective would have been far more arduous and likely resulted in greater number of casualties. Therefore, it is only fitting that T/5 Fleming’s initiative and decisive action be rewarded the Army Commendation Medal, you’ve brought great credit to your platoon and squad.
