When it comes to the combat engineer AIT I am usually pretty picky with how I judge and train the CE’s in my platoon because the AIT is so near and dear to my heart. CE is the best AIT as I always say, and one of the reasons for that is how diverse the AIT is. There are many kits under the sun that are very different from one another and can be used in some pretty creative ways. Sgt. Tremblay is one of the most creative CE’s I’ve seen in quite some time. Some CE’s like to get gud by just getting really accurate with their rockets and that’s about it. Sgt. Tremblay however really made a significant effort to perfect the evil science of the sapper kit in addition to his skills with the launchers. In some ways this has revolutionized the way you see CE played in drills. Sandbag and barbed wire funhouses, minefields and VBIED’s are all things you should expect when facing Sgt. Tremblay on the battlefield, and from the 29th in general now, in large part thanks to the good Sgt. taking the chance to experiment and succeed with some of those “big brained” ways to use CE. Dr. Kaboom, as he’s sometimes known, really has made an impact on the way the 29th views and uses sappers and that has made FP1 and I think the 29th as a whole much more dangerous to vehicles as a result.
